The above sentiment was printed on a greeting card. The words spoke to me immediately.

I noticed that my clients were, all too often, feeling inauthentic with others or themselves. There was a tendency to “change masks” depending on what they were doing or with whom.

And there was an unaware-ness that they were expending unecessary energy modifying their countenance. And that is a costly expenditure!

Do you:

Say something in order to avoid a conflict, then suffer because you did not get what you really needed?

Do things for others out of the goodness of your heart, then feel like you’re not appreciated?

Agree with the statement “If you want something done right, you’ve got to do it yourself”, then resent having to to do it all?

One of the greatest benefits of coaching is the personal transformation that occurs which allows you to be who you are, 100%, and express yourself in ways that free you from the bondage of other people’s opinions.

There are no prescriptive roles for any given situation. The most appropriate way for you to approach any situation can only be determined by what your needs and values guide you to do in the moment. Working with a coach can get you the personal and professional results you want, based on your unique preferences.

And not just any coach.

A coach who understands the nature of personal transformation. A coach who embraces who you are and knows that the only way you will find true peace and happiness is by getting in tune with who you are at the core. A coach who honors and respects your choices, and works with you to leverage your greatest assets.

The International Association of Coaching (IAC) certified coaches based on their demonstration of mastery in these 9 areas:

1. Establishing and maintaining a relationship of trust:

Ensuring a safe space and supportive relationship for personal growth, discovery and transformation

2. Perceiving, affirming and expanding the client’s potential;

The coach recognizes and helps the client to acknowledge and appreciate his or
her strengths and potential.

3. Engaged listening:

Give full attention to the words, nuances, and unspoken meaning of the client's communication and is more deeply aware of the client by listening beyond what the client is able to articulate.

4. Processing in the present:

The coach is attentive to the client, processing information at the level of the mind, body, heart and/or spirit, as appropriate. The coach expands the client’s awareness of how to experience thoughts and issues on these various levels, when and as appropriate.

5. Expressing:

Expressing is the manner in which the coach communicates commitment, direction, intent and ideas.

6. Clarifying:

Reduce/eliminate confusion or uncertainty; increase understanding and the confidence of the client.

7. Helping the client set and keep clear intentions:

Keeps the client focused and working towards intended goals.

8. Inviting possibility:

Creating an environment that allows ideas, options and opportunities to emerge.

9. Helping the client create and use supportive systems and structures:

Helping the client identify and build the relationships, tools, systems and structures he or she needs to advance and sustain progress.

A coach certified by the IAC will help elicit your most authentic expression of you so you can achieve results that are aligned with your purpose and values. And the rewards of living life on your terms cannot be overstated.
